Hastings and Bexhill Wood Recycling Project

Hastings and Bexhill Wood Recycling Project is an award winning social enterprise set up in 2006 to take in waste wood for recycling. The wood is either prepared for re-sale or made into saleable furniture. Originally set up with the help of government funding under Fair Deal to take on trainees, usually long-term unemployed who were sent to the project via government-funded employment agencies. Several years down the line the funding has all but disappeared and business has had to evolve. It is now staffed by a rich mix of former-trainees, who are now volunteers and former volunteers who are now paid employees.

The project is run by one of the founders Mark Storr 'Ogs' Hoggins and Stewart Walton a designer with years of experience who is responsible for the creative side including furniture, product design and manufacturing.

Bird House - Two Storey

Inspired the iconic fishermen's net huts on Hastings Beach. These nest huts were designed for house sparrows who like to nest communally, but we find that blue tits like them too.

Re-Gull

The Re-Gull (ex-scaffoldboardicus) is local to Hastings. Each one is an individual, hand-made in a local workshop by the sea. Re-Gulls can be bought individually, but they are happiest in a flock, so if you buy 4 you get one free-gull!
